This Halloween Table Topper uses fussy cutting to get big impact from its simple construction. It's sure to add zing to your autumn decorating, whether you lean “sweet” or “spooky” with your fabric choices. And of course, this pattern can be adapted for any holiday or season by choosing different fabrics.

Fussy-cutting truly gives a quilt block - or a whole quilt - that “wow-factor”!  The extra detail achieved by strategically cutting patchwork pieces far outweighs the little bit of extra time and attention required to cut the fabric.

This is another of Kelly's “one and done” projects: piece one Hex-in-a-Hex block, quilt, bind, and DONE!!  Warning:  Like eating potato chips, you likely won’t be able to stop with just one! Make more and combine them for a "spook-tacular" quilt.

Join Kelly for this fun, quick-to-complete, “BOO-tiful” project!

In this class, we will cover:

  • Fabric selection and placement to attain the “wow-factor”
    • Learn how Kelly categorizes fabrics for fussy-cutting and how to recognize prints that are perfect for fussy-cutting.
  • Fabric preparation / stabilization
  • Cutting “fussy-cut” patchwork
    • Learn how to utilize template reference points to isolate specific areas of fabric so reproducible cutting is easily accomplished.
  • Piecing and pressing the block
    • Yes, this block has some set-in seams (Y-seams) in its construction. Let Kelly show you how simple these seams are to master, yielding excellent, interesting blocks!
    • You can piece and press this block in under 15 minutes. Yes, you are experienced, but what if it took you twice as long?  You still have a wonderful block pieced and ready to quilt in practically no time!

The book is optional.  Please see ordering instructions above.
How do the live interactive classes work?
The class is taught on an online learning platform -- Zoom -- that allows you to see and interact with the teacher and the other class participants. At the scheduled time, the teacher and students will log in together -- everyone can see everyone else, so you can share work, ask questions, etc. You can view the class on a computer, tablet or phone (you may need to download the app). You will receive login instructions including links and passwords by email and text on the morning of the class. Please "arrive" online during the 30 minutes prior to class so you have time to get set up and learn to use the video conferencing tools.
How do I set up Zoom?
If you watch the class on a computer, you will receive instructions for downloading Zoom at the time you log into the class. If you watch the class on a mobile phone, go to Google Play or the App Store to download and install Zoom Cloud Meetings.
If you need help, you might want to ask a friend, a relative (grand kids are really good at this stuff!), or go to a computer store or library.  The teacher will be online 30-60 minutes before class begins to help get set up for the class.  Once you've done this the first time, it's easy after!
Can I get access to the class after the live session?
The class is recorded and posted online afterward in a private Facebook group, so you can go back and watch the class again if you want to review it or if you missed it.
Can I get help after class?
After class you will have access to a private Facebook group for people who took the same class. The recording of the class is posted there and you and other students can share your work. The teacher checks in from time to time to answer questions.
How long will I have access to the class?
The class ends at the end of the live video conference, but the recording of the class will remain available in the Facebook Group where you can access it.
